Your baby's nervous system is connecting to all the muscles in the body, enabling increasingly coordinated movements.

Development at Week 16

At 16 weeks, your baby can hold its head more erect and the eyes, though still sealed, are making slow side-to-side movements. The circulatory system and urinary tract are fully functioning. Some mothers begin to feel the first fluttering movements, often described as butterflies, around this time.

Next week

At week 17, your baby will be the size of a Pear.
