Your Baby is the Size of a Papaya

Week 36

Papaya

Length

47.4 cm / 18.7 in

Weight

2622 g / 92.5 oz

Your baby's cheeks have filled out with fat and the sucking muscles are strong and ready for feeding.

Development at Week 36

At 36 weeks, most of the lanugo hair has shed and your baby is swallowing it along with the vernix into the digestive tract, where it contributes to the meconium. The gums are firm, though teeth will not erupt until several months after birth. Your baby is considered early term this week and the risk of complications at birth is very low.

Next week

At week 37, your baby will be the size of a Winter Melon.
